Ausbildung Length Calculator

This Ausbildung length calculator shows how long your training lasts if you train part-time, and how short it can get if you shorten it. Choose your training length and hours or reasons, and you get the result under the legal limits. It is free, and nothing you type is stored.

Calculate your Ausbildung length

Normal training length Full-time hours per week in your company Your planned hours per week

General information, not legal advice. The responsible chamber and your company decide. Nothing you type here is stored or sent anywhere.

How the calculator works

Part-time: The reduction may not exceed 50 percent. The training is extended in proportion, up to 1.5 times the normal length, and the result is rounded down to whole months. Read our guide to part-time Ausbildung.
Shortening: Typical reductions are up to 6 months with a middle school certificate and up to 12 months with Abitur, a Berufsgrundbildungsjahr or a completed vocational training. Training cannot fall below 24, 18 or 12 months for a 42, 36 or 24 month training. Read our guide to shortening your Ausbildung.
Not covered: The calculator does not combine both. You can combine a part-time registration with a shortening request, but your chamber calculates the result.

What the result does not tell you

The result is an estimate from public rules. You have no legal claim to a shortening, and your company must agree to part-time hours. Chambers can apply their own rules, and two sources differ on small extensions, as the calculator points out. Check your contract basics in our contract guide and ask your chamber before you sign.
